Thankyou Mr Varun Gandhi

Well, the latest scion of the famed Nehru-Gandhi family strikes, and how. By shouting that we muslims have dangerous sounding names, that if you see us at night you will get afraid, that he will cut our hands if we (supposedly) strike on our Hindu countrymen, and by suggesting that any muslim who wears a beard looks like Osama.

Thank you Mr Varun Gandhi for expressing your views in the open, and for bringing to light that all the rheotheric of the Sangh pariwar/BJP about Hindu Muslim unity, and about treating muslims as Indians is just that - mere rheotheric.

He made fun of the names we have, he made fun of the appearence we keep, and openly threatened my community members. And why? Just because we are the minority here? Just because it has become fashionable to bash up the minorities for some votes. Or just because it so happens that the so called Jihadis and I share the same religion, and so I deserve to be bashed up in my own country.

What proved to be the icing of the cake was when he said that his cousin sister (a girl aged 7 or 8 years) commented on the appearence of another party's candidate and said that he was Osama bin Laaden. Well mister Gandhi, let me remind you that India is a demotric country and we all have the fundamental right to keep any appearence we desire as long as it is within certain limits. And, I know of no laws which prohibit anyone from keeping a beard.

The little girl may have made an innocent comment, since the images of the Al-Qaida chief are shown so much in the news. But now was the time to instill a sense of tolerence in the lady. It should have been explained to her that just because two people have the same appearence does not mean that they both have the same character, just because some religious fanatics wage a war in the name of religion does not make all followers of that religion bad or terrorists.

But no. Instead of doing something that was good, and right - this man chooses to do something that shows the world how "Indian" he truly is. Being a true Indian does not mean singing the national anthem or Vande Matram, nor do you become a true Indian by shouting "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" the loudest.

A true Indian is one who can practice and preach the concept of tolerance and acceptance - of different cultures, religions, and thoughts. These quaities make our country great. Sadly, the netas do not realize this.

Shame on you Mr. Varun Gandhi, and thanks for showing your true face so early in your political career.

This is a very shocked and pissed Hashir (who also happens to be a Muslim), signing off,

Over and out

Being a Young politician, thereby the so called future of Indian politics, the speech made by Varun Gandhi was totally uncalled for. One really cant help if he has a communal mindset, but to come out with it in the open and influence people for mere votes is an act of absolute shame.

i am with u on this hashir.

@Prateek,
Thanks for your comments. I feel that being communal is also not okay. And doing all this for votes is, as you said, an act of absolute shame

@Sawan,

You have raised a very valied point and I deplore the comments of Varun Gandhi in loudest possible term...I am as angry as you are and with you in this battle....with one difference that I rate Varun Gandhi same as I rate Mulayam or Lalu or Mayawati or Congress or BJP....they all trade in votes and buy them by saying things that appease their audience in that particular time.... the concept of minority and majority exists because these bas***ds want it to exist for their gains....I am a Hindu and have got a sister (a relationship created in time) who is a Muslim and majority and minorty thing doesnt' affect our religion....she calls me her bhai and I call her behan....
We do not let our personal religious preferences affect our relationship...morever she is a devout muslim and I am a devout Hindu....
So coming back to the larger issue, i guess the real problem occurs when the religion comes out of the four walls into the open....religion is a very private thing and should never come beyond those four walls........but, these politicians always try and bring them in the open just to get petty votes......not to mention those who wage a war on humanity in the name of religion.....they are worst than these netas....

If the comments he alleged to have made is infact right , its highly condemnable. unfortunately in our country , politicians of all camps play communal card to get votes. Varun is no exception.

well.... nicely written post.... i agree with your views hashir.... but we, the Indians - whether Hindus or Muslims or Jains or Sikhs or whichever religion they belong to - we have to understand one thing.... that these politicians do not belong to ANY PARTICULAR RELIGION.... all they want is to be in power.... and they can stoop to such lows just to garner votes....

And dis is not just wid bjp, such ppl are in every other party, be it congress or bsp or samajwadi party or for that matter any other party....

@Alok,
I totally agree with you in that religion is a private thing and should be kept the same. I too have a sister who is a hindu, and am blessed to have friends from all walks and all religions - and we never let this interfere with our relations. This is the way it should be.

@xpresscoffee,
Thanks for your comment

@Ankit,
Thanks for stopping by. and yes, such politicians do not belong to any religion.

@All,
If my post in any way suggests that all political parties apart from the BJP/Sangh Pariwar do not indulge in politics of religion - then forgive me. The fault lies in my writing.
I never suggest that any political party is better than the rest. Infact, they all are different sides of the same coin. I named BJP/Sangh Pariwar because of their anti-muslim stand in the past (where they also questioned our patriotism), and the recent move by them to appease the minorities and try to project a more secular image - all just to gather more votes.
In truth, most of the political parties here are just the same. All the more reason for us to utilize our votes and to try to get a better person for the job - irrespective of his religion, caste, or political party.

Agreed...we need to utilise our votes carefully....sadly where are the right politicians?

@Alok,
Sad but true.

REALLY True. Varun Gandhi is just trying to get votes by using racisms. But that is against law. I think he should follow Priyanka Gandhi's advice and read Bhagvat Geeta Daily :)

Hashir said...

@Ramya,
yeps, I too think that he should read the Bhagwad Geeta more.

Frankly, I think its disgusting how the politicians keep dividing us on communal lines to get the support. But what angers me even more is when our countrymen believing the daft politicians spread the communal hatred.
What do you expect from a country where almost 60 percent of the voters happen to be either poor or illiterate.
While the "educated" remainder choose not to vote.
I feel India is not fit to be a democracy. Its just not right, with all the corruption and manipulation.
Give me communism any day.

Hashir said...

@Vyazz,
I believe the problem is not with uneducated people only. The problem lies in the beliefs, mindsets and perspective that we give to our children when they are young. No one can remove them.
If it was only about education, Mr. Gandhi would never have given such comments.

It looks like Varun Gandhi has grown jealous of his cousin Rahul's position in the congress and has tried to build a similar position for himself in the BJP.. But, what he has uttered is extremely myopic, and I wonder whether he has learned anything at those foreign universities he has studied at (LSE etc)..

Hashir said...

@Sammy,
well may be this is true. However, in my point of view, he had a better chance of rising in BJP by proving to be the sane voice. But, he chooses to go the other way. Sad

And yes, education is very different from passing an exam. So, even though he may have all the fancy degrees the world has to offer, for me - he is uneducated.

Hi Hashir,

brilliant post. i totally support your view. read my post an open letter to the PM.

this is our country. not your or mine. and we all should feel safe.

i can imagine how you feel. but props to you for writing with such restraint. well done.

Hashir said...

@Sudhir,
thanks for dropping by and for understanding how I feel.

i was not really surprised by Varun Gandhi's comments. this is the kind of politics that the BJP and the RSS have always indulged into. they have tried to spread hatred against Muslims in more ways than one. there was nothing new about it.
i feel this was something that was completely planned beforehand. it was a very cheap tactic to gain some attention and an attempt to make Varun Gandhi a martyr. the way he surrendered himself to the police very well proves the intention of the BJP.
the NSA might have backfired for Varun Gandhi but the BJP is definitely using it to be against the current government ...

Hashir said...

@Saif,
The issue is not about BJP and RSS alone, but is prevailent among all political parties. They all want to win by using the age old "Divide and Rule" policy of Britishers.
It may have been planned, but certainly was not in good taste at all. Specially the way in which he surrendered.

Ankit B. Rathod said...

i agree with hashir.... dis type of 'divide & rule' politics isn't limited to any single party.... all of them do dis.... let us take the recent example of railway minister lalu prasad yadav.... he said "agar main home minister hota, to 17 crore ********* ke khilaf bolne wale varun gandhi ki chhati pe bulldozer chala deta".... now what kind of a man is he?

the only difference between these parties is that they have different audiences (read :: people with extreme religious views) to cater to.....
